Torn from the news

BET HAOMANIM, JERUSALEM, 2000

The use of newspaper as a major component for building the body of the sculpture,is an important part of the message.
By using layers of newsprint and other waste materials for her figurative fragmented sculptures, Grossinger intends to emphasize the analogy to the wasting of the flesh and the mortality of all living things.
Newsprint is the cultural medium that propagates fragments of reality into various spheres. It is non-commitel yet accessible to all. It triggers the response of the heart and mind of the artist who uses it as raw material to convey ideas and precepts.
In this exhibition Grossinger has created a wood construction of boards, with net bags that hold embrionic figures.Other works depict a deer-head skeleton made from layers of newspaper and iron grids that is stuck on an iron rod, two half-horses stuck in mid-air, or the image of a deer that died while being caught by its horns in a bush.
These works reflect the imposed obstacles which limit the ability to move forward and beyond, very much reflected in our times in this part of the world.
